Mercan Properties signs agreement with Marriott International to operate three hotels in Portugal.

Mercan Properties, which already has 17 projects in Portugal, has signed  franchise agreements with Marriott International, Inc. to operate three hotels under Marriott International brands.

The agreements apply to hotel projects located in Lagos, Lisbon and Vila Nova de Gaia. Management will be handled by Ace Hospitality Management (AHM).

"The relationship with Marriott International  is another reason of pride for Mercan Properties, which has sought to work with the best brands in developing quality hotel projects in Portugal and making a positive contribution to the Portuguese economy," says Jordi Vilanova, president of Mercan Properties. "These three hotels represent a total investment of around 187 million euros and the creation of 281 direct jobs."

In Algarve, Marriott Lagos, which is the result of a 98 million euro investment, is located next to Porto de Mós beach and will focus on the leisure and sports segments, with several sports facilities. Marriott Lagos will also include a cinema, spa and gym. This hotel will have 201 rooms and is expected to create 130 direct jobs in this region of the Algarve. It is scheduled to open in the summer of 2023.

Moxy Alfragide Lisbon is Mercan Properties' first venture in Greater Lisbon, designed to give guests everything they want and nothing they don’t at an affordable price. 63 million euros will be invested in this project with the purpose of creating a space dedicated to tourism, but also to business activities, with an important focus on social and co-work spaces. It will have 218 rooms, an indoor pool, meeting room, restaurant and bar. It is expected to create 130 direct jobs. It is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2024.

Located in Vila Nova de Gaia, The Riverview, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel is an urban requalification project in one of the historic areas of the metropolis of Porto, two minutes away from the D.Luís I Bridge. This hotel will have a capacity for 70 rooms, with a swimming pool, bar and gym. The investment is around 26 million euros and is expected to create 21 direct jobs. The Riverview, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2023.

Mercan Properties currently has 17 real estate projects in the tourism sector in Portugal, five of which are already completed, two hotels are fully operational and three are set to open soon.
