Alentejo Coast sets a new record in Tourism activity

The western Coast of Portugal is becoming more and more attractive. Over 1 million overnight stays just in 2022.

According to the latest data from INE (National Statistics Institute), for the first time, the number of overnight stays has exceeded one million in 2022, increasing to 24.4% over the previous year and up to 7.2%, compared to 2019 - the last year before the Covid-19 pandemic.

These results "confirm the exponential growth of overnight stays in tourist accommodations recorded nationally in 2022, compared to 2021” according to the Municipality.

"Although these are just provisional numbers, the 2022 data reveals that the total number of overnight stays in the five counties of the Alentejo coast - Alcácer do Sal, Grândola, Odemira, Santiago do Cacém and Sines - reached 1,049,043, achieving its peak on the summer months" adds.

According to the latest data published by the National Statistics Institute, in 2021, around 230 tourist accommodations in Alentejo Litoral were distributed by the municipalities that make up the Alentejo Intermunicipality Community (CIMAL): Alcácer do Sal, Grândola, Odemira, Santiago do Cacém and Sines.
