The "A Sea of Opportunities" conference, a collaborative effort by the Luso-French Chamber of Commerce and Industry alongside the Commercial Service of the Canadian Embassy in Portugal, was recently hosted at the University of Algarve.

The event was marked by the presence of Pedro Valadas Monteiro - vice-president of the Algarve Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR) - as well as several leaders, environmental advocates, and students.

The conference focused on marine resources, specifically seaweed exploitation and aquaculture. It aimed to foster business growth and attract investors to these fields while emphasizing the importance of ocean cleanliness and environmental sustainability, harnessing the sea's potential in an environmentally responsible manner.

Moreover, Hugo Padrão – Director of Sustainability at Mercan Portugal – emphasized the underscored importance of ocean conservation and environmental responsibility within the hospitality sector, as well as led a number of discussions towards the need for concerted efforts to clean up our oceans, presenting it not just as an environmental obligation but also as a significant investment in the future of the planet and its biodiversity.
