IHG Hotels & Resorts (IHG) has signed agreements for nine new hotels across Portugal, adding 976 rooms to its development brand. The new signings include properties from IHG’s luxury and lifestyle collection as well as the Essentials Collection. The Essentials Collection will welcome six new hotels under the Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express brands. Among these, the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Lisbon – Amoreiras and Holiday Inn Express & Suites Portimão are notable additions.

Owned by Real Hotels Group, the 192-room Holiday Inn Express & Suites Lisbon – Amoreiras is set to open early next year, becoming the first Holiday Inn Express & Suites property in Portugal. Additionally, the 60-room Holiday Inn Express & Suites Portimão, owned by Harland & Poston Group, is slated to open in the first half of 2025.

The other two properties in this collection are Holiday Inn Express Porto – Boavista and Holiday Inn Express Evora. The Holiday Inn brand will also grow with two new hotels, Holiday Inn Braga and Holiday Inn Beja. The 114-room Holiday Inn Braga, owned by Soliteight Hotel Projects, will be the first IHG property in their portfolio, expected to launch in the second half of 2024. The 95-room Holiday Inn Beja, owned by Mercan Properties, is scheduled to open during the same period.

In the luxury and lifestyle collection, IHG has signed Kimpton Lisbon, Hotel Indigo Albufeira, and Hotel Indigo Faro. The 141-room Kimpton Lisbon, set to open in early 2026, will be the first Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants-branded property in Lisbon and the eighth in partnership with Real Hotels Group. The 80-room Hotel Indigo Albufeira and the 127-room Hotel Indigo Faro, both signed with Mercan Properties, are expected to open in mid-2025 and late 2026, respectively.

Willemijn Geels, IHG Hotels & Resorts Europe development vice president, stated: “It is wonderful to see Kimpton Lisbon, Hotel Indigo Faro, and Hotel Indigo Albufeira added to our luxury and lifestyle presence in Portugal, alongside the continued strong momentum of our Essentials Collection throughout the market. Two-thirds of the 976 rooms announced today are part of our Holiday Inn brand family, confirming the confidence owners continue to have in our powerhouse brands.”

Currently, IHG operates 20 hotels in Portugal across seven brands and has a development pipeline of 15 hotels. Last month, IHG, in partnership with SM Group, announced plans to launch the first voco hotel in Fujian province, Greater China.
