A new study from Globetrender and Mastercard reveals a noticeable increase in travel around this time, as more and more travelers prefer to go on vacation outside of the summer months. To inspire the next off-season getaway, Marriott Bonvoy has rounded up some of the continent's most exciting destinations, which really are in their element after summer.

Porto always has something to offer: a packed calendar of festivals, cultural celebrations, markets and events means that there is rarely time for boredom. However, the summer season offers a unique charm, as the city's parks begin to fill with bright autumn colors and the streets are tree-holed. The show is especially wonderful on the banks of the Douro River, where harvest time is the perfect time to explore the local wineries and witness the winemaking and grape stomping. Visitors are also more likely to get a reservation at one of the city's many culinary hotspots, such as the Cozinha das Flores, by world-famous chef Nuno Mendes, or Gruta, hailed as one of the city's best new places to enjoy seafood.

The newly opened Renaissance Porto Lapa Hotel, located in Lapa, is located in one of the most historic and unspoilt neighborhoods of Porto, very close to the city center. Guests can enjoy stunning panoramic views of the city while sipping a locally-inspired cocktail and sampling Portuguese bites at the hotel's Sky Bar, located next to the stunning rooftop infinity pool. On the ground floor of the hotel, food is served throughout the day at L'Égoïste Bar & Restaurant, where the Renaissance Brand Bar Ritual takes place four times a week to mark the transition from day to night with a locally infused punch bowl that transforms into a cocktail and live music venue in the evening.
