New Boutique Hotel opens in Albufeira with Rooftop Pool and Vegan Spa

In just over five months, the former Hotel California Urban Beach was transformed into the new Hotel Indigo Albufeira, now offering a brighter and more refined ambiance across its 80 redesigned rooms. The hotel, just a two-minute walk from the iconic Fishermen’s Beach in Albufeira and located along the city’s vibrant “bar street,” embraces the essence of the sky and the Atlantic Ocean in its coastal-inspired décor.

A Contemporary Adults-Only Retreat

The hotel maintains its adults-only policy and now positions itself as a boutique hotel, foregoing former nightclub-themed rooms in favor of a more sophisticated design. Decor details draw on terracotta tones and ocean blues, paying tribute to coral reefs and marine landscapes. Handcrafted macramé, seashell motifs, and wave-inspired elements bring a distinct maritime character to each space.

A highlight is the exclusive rooftop pool on the sixth floor, offering panoramic views of the Algarve coastline. This leisure area features 40 sun loungers and decorative fishing-net hammocks, complemented by starfish-shaped pillows that enhance the relaxed atmosphere. Adjacent to the pool is a bar with seating for 70, operating from 11:00 AM to 10:30 PM, providing constant service to guests, including in-room dining options.

Organic & Vegan Wellness Experiences

Inside, the wellness area includes an indoor pool, a hydrotherapy circuit, and an Organic & Vegan Spa that sources ingredients locally. Orange blossom tea is served upon arrival, while treatments feature Algarve oranges, sea salt from Tavira, and Atlantic algae, creating an authentically Portuguese wellness ritual.

The Hotel Indigo Albufeira is managed by AHM – Ace Hospitality Management, a company within the Mercan Group, specializing in high-standard hospitality operations. João Figueira, Director of Operations and Business Development at AHM, noted:

Strategic Investment in the Algarve

This project represents a €13 million investment and is AHM’s first managed hotel in the Algarve, underscoring Mercan’s confidence in the region’s hospitality potential. The reopening generated 29 direct jobs, contributing positively to local employment and economic development.
