In a new "Summer Conversation", the TNews invited Manuel Leite, General Manager at Casa da Companhia, Vignette Collection, to a light conversation about travelling. From a vacation destination to memories from past vacations gone wrong, Manuel Leite offers a more personal perspective.

Which destination would you choose for a vacation without thinking about work?

Considering that I’m currently enjoying a few days off, I would choose my current destination, Sardinia, because it’s exactly what I was looking for—sun and fantastic beaches. Dolce far niente.

What can’t be missing from your vacation suitcase?

A good book and sunscreen.

What travel-related book or movie has impacted you the most?

I’m not in the habit of reading travel books. However, I can recommend a novel that deeply moved me because of its story and that is set in the Alentejo, Spain, and Brazil, with descriptions that truly take you on a journey: Rio das Flores by Miguel Sousa Tavares.

Do you have a memory of a trip that went wrong? What did you learn from that experience?

A few years ago, I went on vacation to Mallorca in September, looking for a few good days at the beach. After the first day, it poured rain, and we even had a small storm. It was only then that we found out that September is the rainy season in Mallorca. I learned that we should try to gather as much information as possible before booking a trip.

If you could invent the ideal resort or hotel, what would it be like?

Besides offering high quality and an excellent location, in my case, it would have to be an adults-only resort because when I need to switch off, I need absolute peace and quiet.
