Enjoy The Holidays at Origine Porto Gaia, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel With The Classics And The Douro River In The Background

Source: Guia da Cidade
Opened this summer, Origine Porto Gaia, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, welcomes the festive season with exclusive gastronomic offerings, a New Year’s Eve party inspired by three iconic decades, and privileged views over the city of Porto and the Douro River from its 70 rooms of various typologies.
Everything begins on December 24, when the Christmas Dinner, served at the Cais-me Bem restaurant, brings to the table Portuguese-cured cod with “farrapo velho” and quail egg, and slow-cooked pork shoulder with Trás-os-Montes couscous, cabbage, and stuffed boletus mushrooms. Traditional festive desserts take center stage with “rabanadas,” queen cake, and doughnuts drizzled with Port wine and spice syrup.
The following day is the perfect time to gather family and friends once again for an unhurried Christmas Lunch served buffet-style. Among the cold dishes, composed salads, smoked salmon slices with capers and crème fraîche, and boards of Portuguese charcuterie and cheeses stand out. The hot section features mustard-crusted roast beef, cod baked with cornbread and “farrapo velho,” roasted milk-fed goat with smashed potatoes, smoked-sausage rice, and mushroom fricassée with roasted cauliflower. To finish, dessert lovers can expect a selection that includes traditional crème brûlée, chocolate mousse, rice pudding with salted caramel and Douro almonds, and sponge cake.
Elegance, music, and the vibrant tones of the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s set the theme for New Year’s Eve at Origine Porto Gaia, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, where the past inspires the future in a celebration designed to be an immersive and unforgettable experience. After the welcome cocktail at the Cota 2019 champagne bar, the six-course menu highlights premium ingredients, from lobster with scallop and curry to foie gras with Teixeira jam, almonds, and orange, along with sea bass with algae, shellfish, and bean stew, or venison reinterpreted as a Wellington. The sweeter palate is indulged with a cheese duo with beetroot and blueberries, followed by the tonka bean entrée with white chocolate and berry jus. Wine pairings feature selections from the Douro and Vinho Verde regions.
Before the clock strikes midnight, the countdown takes place on the restaurant terrace, offering a panoramic view of the Douro, where sparkling wine from Bairrada and the traditional raisins are served to welcome the wishes for 2026. At the Cota 2019 champagne bar, the party continues with an open bar and a late-night supper featuring mini beef sandwiches with cheese, mini chorizo rolls, salmon and avocado croissants, “caldo verde,” and hot chocolate.
On the first morning of the year, the doors of Cais-me Bem reopen for a reinforced New Year’s Brunch. Alongside a selection of fruits, breads, pastries, yogurts, and fresh juices, guests will find cold options such as tomato carpaccio with basil and burrata, roast beef with tonnato sauce, and smoked salmon with lime and capers. The hot section includes eggs Benedict, pumpkin cream, seafood and coriander stew, and pork shank with creamy potatoes. To close the festivities, the dessert station features beloved classics such as chocolate mousse, crème brûlée, and berry panna cotta.
