Mercan Properties presented its first Sustainability Report, in which it establishes ESG commitments and targets through 2030 for the hotel units in its portfolio in Portugal, managed by AHM – ACE Hospitality Management.

According to the company, the document, aligned with the European framework and with the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda, aims to strengthen the integration of ESG criteria into investment decisions, operations, and the group’s long-term strategy.

Among the priorities identified through 2030, the report highlights the progressive alignment of suppliers with ESG criteria, the incorporation of international best practices in responsible investment, the strengthening of the environmental performance of hotel assets through internationally recognized certifications, the deepening of ties with local communities, and the strengthening of commitment to employees, including growth opportunities and health and well-being programs.

“This first Sustainability Report marks an important step in building the foundations of Mercan Properties’ ESG journey. It reflects our current situation, while reinforcing our commitment to continuously integrate sustainability into our decisions, operations, and long-term strategy,” says Hugo Padrão, Sustainability Director of the Mercan Properties Group, in a statement.

The company also notes that the document “consolidates the results of 2024” and establishes a long-term roadmap to strengthen “ethical governance, reduce environmental impact, and deepen social contribution in Portugal,” while simultaneously preparing the organization for “future challenges and for the expectations and requirements that are constantly evolving in the hotel and tourism market.”

Mercan Properties currently manages and develops 32 hotel developments in Portugal, with a presence in cities such as Porto, Vila Nova de Gaia, Matosinhos, Lisbon, Amarante, Santiago do Cacém, Évora, Beja, the Algarve, and Madeira, and has been in the country since 2015.
