The Portuguese Institute of Neurodegenerative Diseases (IPDN) held a charity dinner on June 6 at the Renaissance Porto Lapa Hotel.

This initiative, born from civil society, brings together people from the most diverse fields, researchers, artists, entrepreneurs, and professionals from different sectors, at both national and international levels, united by a common goal: to support people living with neurodegenerative diseases and their caregivers, who are often subject to high levels of physical and emotional strain.

Neurodegenerative diseases are silent. They enter our lives without warning, transforming routines, dreams, and relationships. From one day to the next, entire families find themselves facing daily challenges that demand courage, resilience, and continuous support. Behind every diagnosis lies a story of love, dedication, and, very often, profound loneliness.

Caregivers, parents, children, partners, and friends are true invisible heroes. Many live in a permanent state of emotional and physical exhaustion, putting their own lives on hold to care for those they love. This dinner was created to tell them: you are not alone.

Taking part in this dinner is more than attending a charity event. It is a gesture of empathy, commitment, and hope. It is sitting down at the table to give a voice to those who need it, to build bridges between science, society, and community, and to help create a future with more support, more research, and a better quality of life for thousands of people.

Every registration represented a real step forward in the fight against these diseases. Every seat at the table is a sign that society is coming together to care for its own.
