10 Hotels in Mercan Properties Group’s Portfolio Managed by AHM Receive Green Key 2026 International Recognition

Spread from north to south across Portugal, 10 hotels in the Mercan Properties Group portfolio, managed by AHM – Ace Hospitality Management, have been awarded the Green Key 2026 distinction, the international certification that promotes sustainable tourism in Portugal.

Recognizing tourism establishments that implement sound environmental and social practices, promote effective environmental management, and encourage sustainability education is the primary mission of Green Key, an international certification that promotes sustainable tourism in Portugal. In this year's edition, the program recognized 10 hotels in the Mercan Properties Group portfolio, managed by AHM – Ace Hospitality Management, located throughout the country.

Casa da Companhia – Hotel & Spa, Vignette Collection, Origine Porto Gaia, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, Arts Hotel Porto, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, Sé Catedral Hotel Porto, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, Fontinha Porto, Trademark Collection by Wyndham, Four Points by Sheraton Matosinhos, Hilton Garden Inn Évora, Holiday Inn Express Évora, Holiday Inn Beja, and Hotel Indigo Albufeira are the 10 hotels now receiving the Green Key distinction. The recognition highlights initiatives such as efficient energy, water, and waste management, including efforts to reduce food waste, the adoption of sustainability criteria in the selection of suppliers and products, as well as raising awareness and engaging guests by encouraging more responsible behaviors throughout their stay.

"This distinction provides external and independent validation that these practices and commitments are effectively embedded in the operations of our hotels. For Mercan Properties Group, it represents recognition of the strategy we have been developing to build a hotel portfolio that is increasingly aligned with our ESG commitments, while also acknowledging the daily work of the teams who turn these principles into concrete actions. We believe sustainability is no longer solely an environmental issue. It is becoming an increasingly important factor in the way hotels are designed, operated, and positioned in the market, reflecting a vision of hospitality rooted in authenticity, respect for the environment, and the ability to generate lasting positive impacts for guests, employees, investors, and local communities," said Hugo Padrão, Sustainability Director at Mercan Properties Group.

Environmental management, guest awareness and engagement, water, energy, waste, procurement of goods and services, and the surrounding environment are the core areas underpinning the Green Key program criteria. Its primary objectives are to reduce the environmental impact of commercial, service, and hospitality activities, promote the efficient use of natural resources, and contribute to the implementation of the United Nations 2030 Agenda, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals.

The Green Key 2026 National Ceremony took place on July 9 in Funchal. The initiative is led by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), headquartered in Denmark, and coordinated in Portugal by the Blue Flag Association for Environment and Education (ABAAE), with the support of several national public and private organizations.
